Lactation Services
Sutter Women's Services
Breastfeeding offers babies the best possible start by bonding mother and newborn, providing the ideal nutrition, and strengthening a baby's immune system against common illnesses, such as diarrhea, ear infections, and pneumonia. Breastfeeding is also known to protect against Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), juvenile diabetes and childhood cancers. Breastfeeding has also been shown to protect women against breast and ovarian cancer, anemia and osteoporosis.
The Sutter Health Regional Lactation Program provides counseling and educational support that enhance a woman's ability to breastfeed her baby. The program is available through each hospital in the Sacramento Sierra region.
INPATIENT SERVICES: Available by appointment, a certified lactation consultant visits new mothers who have questions or concerns about breastfeeding, providing information on techniques and answering questions.
Our babies.sutterhealth.org website is an excellent resource to answer your questions and address any concerns you might have on breastfeeding. Additional information on breastfeeding is available in our health information section.
