The area's leading pediatric cardiovascular services are provided through the coordinated resources of the Children's Center at Sutter Medical Center and the Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute. Patients and families receive cutting edge technology and state of the art care. We are a regional referral center for young heart patients throughout Northern California for diagnoses ranging from abnormal heart rhythms to congenital heart disease. We provide full diagnostic capabilities along with both diagnostic and interventional heart catheterization services. Inpatient and outpatient services are combined to provide the most comprehensive care to each child. The Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute is there for your support from diagnosis in infancy to ongoing care through adulthood.

The pediatric department's focus is on family-centered care. Our goal is to partner with the whole family to address not only the child's medical needs, but also the child and family's educational, emotional and spiritual needs. In addition to highly skilled physicians, nurses, therapists and technicians, we have Child Life Specialists, social workers, and chaplains to help patients and families cope with their child's illness.

Highly trained nursing staff provide care for young heart patients both before and after surgery in the 20 bed pediatric intensive care unit and on the 39 bed pediatric medical-surgical unit. Symptomatic or underweight newborn infants require specialized nursery care and our 55-bed special care nursery offers the most advanced Level III intensive care nursery in the region, with patients referred from 23 counties.
